On the webcam

I’m going to be helping conduct a summer institute for teachers today and next Saturday. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of me on the computer lab webcams.

First Post: Comic-Con and Expo

Thursday, July 20th, 2000

Spent yesterday at the San Diego Comic-Con with Jason. Actually, the Comic-Con itself doesn’t start until today; I was actually at the Comic Book Expo, which is for comic industry retailers to come get a sneak peek at upcoming releases, meet with creators, and schmooze with others in the comic shop biz. (It’s also a great place to score some swag!) I met some folks whose shop I used to frequent in Chico, learned a couple of CCGs (Young Jedi and Legend of the Five Rings, if you’re curious), and saw a prerelease copy of the Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition Players Handbook - not due out until next month. By far the high point of the show for me was the Will Eisner signing. I only got a chance to have a very brief exchange with him, but he seems like a genuinely warm individual (I think my exact words to Jay as we were walking away were, “There’s a helluva nice guy.”) He took time to talk to each person for whom he was autographing something, and shook a lot of hands without hesitation. I hope I have the opportunity to meet him again in the future.
