Hectic weekend
Had a half-day at the day job on Friday, so I headed over to the big screen to [finally!] catch Angelina Jolie in the second installment of Tomb Raider. I enjoyed it; it was good fun, Angelina was yummy, and the flick itself was better-constructed than the first (even though it did have a couple of WTF? plot holes).
And then it was on to the shop:
Had our third anniversary sale at the shop on Friday and Saturday. Busybusybusy! (And, yeah, technically it was our fourth anniversary; we were running out of a spare bedroom at the house for a year prior to that.)
Jay was a little worried about the turnout for the sale - usually a couple of huge sales days for us (people literally save up their pennies to hit the sale) - when we had a couple of really good days on Wednesday and Thursday.
It turned out to be worrying about nothing, ’cause sales were gangbusters! Booyah!
And then yesterday everyone was out of money, which meant the shop was a ghost town. Oh well. ![]()

The Friday Five
From the Friday-isn’t-a-day-it’s-a-state-of-mind (so-I’m-not-really-late-with-this-thing) department: http://www.fridayfive.org/
1. What time do you wake up on weekday mornings?
About 7:20-7:30 (30-40 minutes before the workday starts), though that’s typically after hitting the snooze button for an hour or so.
2. Do you sleep in on the weekends? How late?
Most usually. I typically will sleep in until sometime in the 9am hour; much later than that and my sleep-wake cycle gets off enough that going to sleep Sunday night (and, therefore, getting up for work on Monday morning) becomes a pain in the ass.
3. Aside from waking up, what is the first thing you do in the morning?
Answer the call of nature.
4. How long does it take to get ready for your day?
On a workday? I’ve got the process down to 15-20 minutes (shower, shave, dress).
On a weekend when I want to take my time and relax? About 45 minutes.
5. When possible, what is your favorite place to go for breakfast?
I actually like the little diner-type places, Denny’s and the like. It was a special occasion when, as a kid, I got to go with my dad and sister to IHOP (quiet time for my mom, I suppose). I guess the general vibe of that has stuck with me.
JMS’ Cat Story - now with pictures
The tale of JMS and the cat called “Buddy” can be found online and now has new JMS-taken photos of Buddy!

Quizquizquizquiz!

You are… Elizabeth’s pirate fetish.
You’re a secret, closet fetish that no one knows about. Except maybe Jack. Something about rum swigging, ne’er do well cads gets your goat. It’s okay, I’m sure lots of people feel the EXACT same way. Really.

Mostly a movie review, with just a hint
…of healed-up happiness.
Saw American Wedding this afternoon, thanks to the summer schedule (read: Friday half-day) at work.
I really enjoyed the flick. It was a good sign that in a movie with as many “oh gross” and “oh my god” and make-you-flinch moments as this one (and believe me, there are some doozies) I’ve emotionally invested in the characters when I cried at the climactic wedding scene. (Full disclosure: I’ve cried at every friend’s wedding I’ve been to. Seriously. Just ask anyone.)
Alyson Hannigan was, of course, adorable. Jason Biggs turned in another delightfully uncomfortable performance as Jim. Seann William Scott, in his return to the Stifler character, repeatedly steals the show. And let’s not forget Eugene Levy in the anchor position. (As in a relay [good], not as in a boat [bad].)
So it wasn’t until after I had put in a morning of work at the office, driven 15ish miles to the theater, watched the movie, played one of the lobby video games (Bust-a-Move, if you must know), and was walking back to my car that I remembered today is the anniversary of my wedding, a long eight years ago.
And it was no big deal.
Funny how that heart thing works, ain’t it? ![]()
