Quiz: What Type of Kiss Are You?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2003

passionate kiss
You Are a Passionate Kiss!
When you kiss, the world either stops or spins, at least for the minute that your lips are locked. No question about it: you tend to get carried away. It’s no wonder your kissing often leads to other things :-)

The Friday Five, Unplugged

Friday, September 26th, 2003

Today’s questions not taken from http://www.fridayfive.org/

What’s the strangest thing that has ever happened to you? (from Noelle)
The scene: Out with friends at Disneyland, circa 1989. I’m with a subset of the friends waiting outside the Disneyland Hotel for the rest of the group to rejoin us.

These three really tough guys, who bear more than a passing resemblance to gang members, notice us sitting there and stalk toward us. The leader opens his mouth and out pop five very incongruous words:

“Do you believe in Jesus?”

What follows is 30-45 minutes of them proselytizing to/at us while we squirmed uncomfortably and tried in vain to end the conversation. When it finally did, they pressed a Bible into our hands and left.

The entire encounter was so odd, I saved the Bible; I’m pretty sure I still have it somewhere with the one my grandparents gave me when I was eight.

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done to someone? (Noelle)
This one’s not so funny “ha-ha” as funny “holy fucking shit.”

Growing up, my sister was always able to push my buttons, and as we got into our teenage years that really didn’t change.

This one time, she was baiting me, badly, and I was reacting to it badly. I got so fed up with it that when she retreated to the sanctuary of her room, I broke down her bedroom door.

That’s right: I broke down my sister’s door. To call it far from my shining moment is to minimize just how horrifically out of control I was at that moment. It still haunts me to this day.

My parents, needless to say, were pissed. In addition to the huge-ass grounding I got, I had to buy and paint and install a replacement door.

What is your favorite prime number? Why? (Scott)
Thirteen. It’s funky, it’s feared, and it’s not all “Ooh! Look at me! I’m the only even prime!” like that stuck-up Two.

What is your favorite shape? Why? (Scott)
A Möebius Strip. One side, one edge. A nice and fun little mindfuck.

EDITED: Marlene Dietrich as Catwoman

…and Orson Welles as Batman? Almost happened, all the way back in 1946.

Edited 29 Sept 2003:
It’s a hoax, according to CBR.cc’s “Lying in the Gutters” column:

BATTY MAN

Yes, yes, very funny Mark Millar. A rather well written hoax. And he’d have gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for Orson Welles spending the time he supposedly was working on Batman, producing the “Eighty Days Around The World” stage play. And supposed source, Lionel Hutton, not even existing through Google anywhere.

Good one though. I reckon this’ll quickly become another comics legend.

Yeah. Very fucking funny. (Grr.)

Monica Bellucci: Evil Queen of the Forest

Monica Bellucci as Persephone in Matrix ReloadedFrom Cinescape:

Monica Bellucci has been cast as the evil queen of the forest in Terry Gilliam’s Brothers Grimm movie. Bellucci’s character is a sorceress who kidnaps virgins to harvest their blood so she can stay forever young and beautiful. Most guys (myself included) who saw Bellucci in The Matrix Reloaded as Percephone wouldn’t have a problem with this blood shedding thing if it meant she’s going to wear one of those snug latex corsets again.

Matt Damon and Heath Ledger play the two Grimm siblings who are actually con artists, duping simple townsfolk into believing they’re the Middle Ages equivalent of the Ghostbusters. The brothers are called to the task when they investigate the haunted forest where Bellucci’s character resides. The film is scheduled for a mid- or fall 2004 opening.

The editorial contents are those of the original author… not that I disagree with them. Yum.

A strange compliment

One of my co-workers told me yesterday that I was looking like the Wicked Witch of the West.

No doubt noticing my confused, whatchootalkinboutwillis look, he continued: I’m losing so much weight that I’m just “melting away.”

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
I like Poe quite a lot; her songwriting, storytelling, and singing abilities are top-notch, particularly on Haunted. Top musician, though, is Danny Elfman. The man is a musical god.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
I’ve read more than one interview with Natalie Merchant that demonstates how arrogant a putz she is. Musically, I’ve found Sinead O’Connor to be a bit like nails on chalkboard to me.

3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
Ummm… Sure… (This is an odd question.)

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
Yes, I’ve been to three concerts: They Might Be Giants twice, and Oingo Boingo once. The “best show” edge goes to Boingo, particularly given that I saw them at their penultimate concert ever.

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
The RIAA has been several categories beyond “overzealous” in their pursuit of file traders. I think that a lot of the music that people download is stuff they wouldn’t necessarily buy, either because they end up not liking it, or because the downloaders are, let’s face it, kids with minimal disposable income.

I don’t think that I’m unique in wanting to buy CDs and support artists whose work I enjoy.
