F5: A kid’s perspective

The Friday FiveAnswers strangely abbreviated today. http://www.fridayfive.org/

What was…

1. …your first grade teacher’s name?
Oh, geez. I don’t remember. I feel like I should, though I’m not sure why: it’s not exactly an even slightly important meme for me to have readily available in mental RAM.

2. …your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
Whatever was on. The details elude me at the moment, but I still remember the dismay I felt each time cartoons ended and ABC’s Wide World of Sports (”…the thrill of victory; the agony of defeat…”) began.

3. …the name of your very first best friend?
Chris Devore. Knew him in fourth and fifth grade (until my family moved to California). Used to play with He-Man/Masters of the Universe toys with him. Birthday on Cinco de Mayo. Had a go-kart and a dog named Charlie Pepper.

4. …your favorite breakfast cereal?
Cookie Crisp.

Man, I could seriously snarf that stuff.

Now it’s Cocoa Pebbles for my highly-sugared breakfast cereal of choice.

5. …your favorite thing to do after school?
Watch TV: Tom and Jerry, Bewitched, et al.

    Oddly enough, Kevin.

    4. …your favorite breakfast cereal?
There is absolutely no substitute for Frosted Flakes. Who can deny the power of Tony the Tiger?

    What was…

    1. …your first grade teacher’s name?
Ms. Jeannie Watkins. She got married the summer after my first grade year, and became Mrs. Stout. I don’t know why I remember this, I just do.

    2. …your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
I can remember the name of my first grade teacher, but I can’t tell you what my favorite cartoon was. Damn, I must be broken.

    3. …the name of your very first best friend?
David Van Vickle. Ironically, he lived in the house that was later occupied by my current best friend, just two doors down from my parents’ house on Singapore.

    4. …your favorite breakfast cereal?
Cap’n Crunch. To this day, Peanut Butter Crunch holds some sort of mystical spell over me that I just cannot break. Mmmm waxy coating aftertaste….

    5. …your favorite thing to do after school?
There were a lot of factors involved in this one. What grade are we talking about exactly? It varied from:
    - Playing Dungeons & Dragons with the Binder boys
    - Playing with MASK toys with Chad Wainwright and Sal Fazzah
    - Watching cartoons (such as Silverhawks — I *loved* that one)
    - Live role-playing Centurions with Chad Wainwright and Jared Ullman
    - Playing computer games with my friends (alternately, watching Ryan Loomis (affectionately called “the kid with the big nose” by my Grandma) play SimCity — that kid was a SimCity fiend)

The list could go on and on … but those were *all* my favorite things!
