…I fell into a Ring of Fire…

After closely guarding contestant information only to have the information leaked to the media anyway, CBS has posted biographic information for the participants in the ninth season of Survivor, which is taking place in Vanuatu (aka the “Islands of Fire”).

You can tune in to the season premiere Thursday 16 September at 8pm.

Are people still watching Survivor? After the first season, it just didn’t seem as entertaining to me. Or maybe I only watched the first season because of Coleen.

On the serious side, how does a show have 9 seasons in less than 5 years? I believe that the first season of Survivor started after I moved to Florida, which was December 1999…

Survivor was one of the first reality shows (heck, one of the first shows in general) to eschew the traditional 1 season : 1 year formula that’s ruled TV. Since they don’t really have a market for episode repeats, they take a few months off and then premiere a new set of castaways.

By the way, I’m really glad you’re okay. I tried calling you after news of the hurricane shenanigans broke (since I only heard about it tangentially and had no idea how close to your place it was hitting), but got an “all circuits are busy” message from the telco.

For those of you playing along at home, I live in Delray Beach, FL, along the “east coast” of Florida.

Fortunately for us, Charley decided to go and beat up the “west coast” of Florida (between Fort Myers and Tampa). The worst that we got from Charley passing by were approx 20mph winds (with gusts into the 30 range). We did not get any rain, and as you can guess our house did not sustain any damage from the low speed zephyrs. While we were quite lucky on our side of the state, there were many who lost their homes or lives, and it’s always sobering to think that we were within 100 miles of utter destruction.

But you can’t dwell on the “what if”s, otherwise you’re going to drive yourself bonkers. Kyle, Jenn and I all fared very well, and we’re elated that the hurricane didn’t come thorugh our area. Thanks for your concern, it means a LOT to me.
