Bring out the cake!

Today, the girl who nicknamed me “Batman” turns seven!

Happy Birthday, Amber!

What’s Your Power Color?

Your Power Color is Green

You feel most at home in a world of ideas. You’re curious and logical – and enjoy a good intellectual challenge. You’re super cool, calm, and collected. Very little tries your patience. Your only fear? People not realizing how smart and able you are!

Who knew commuting could be such a workout?

Today I took BART to work for the first time, avoiding rush hour traffic back and forth across the Bay Bridge.

Here’s where it gets interesting: The BART station is 1.7 miles away.

Going there this morning wasn’t too bad. Though the morning was chilly-and-a-half, and fog-borne vapor was thick in the air, it was a nice walk. Oh, and it was all downhill.

…which means, of course, that I had to 1.7 miles home from the station this evening.

All.

Up.

Hill.

Once upon a time, Scott and I found ourselves playing around with an altimeter (I think it was his dad’s, but I might be wrong), watching the display drift up and down ever so slightly as we drove around the modest, rolling, perfectly manicured hills of Mission Viejo.

As I trudged up, up, forever up this evening, I was more than a little curious what that altimeter would’ve told me.

Probably best, though, that I don’t know for sure. That way, I can just know, maaaan, that it was the equivalent of a quarter mile straight up.

Though that might just be the oxygen depletion talking.

Just a reminder to my California peeps: The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming presidential election is 10/18. That’s this Monday.

If you haven’t done so, the time to do so is now.

Don’t forget, too, to register for your chance at $100,000. Anybody in any state can sign up for the contest. And thank you to the three of you who’ve signed up already. ;-)

First day at the new job

Just a brief note to let everyone know that, after a slow start in the morning (my new boss got caught in traffic and my new co-workers didn’t have anything I could help with yet), my first day went really well.

I think this new gig is gonna work out quite nicely. :-D

Thank you to all those who’ve given me their support in person, via blog, via email, and via my blog’s comments!

Disuse = profit?

Y’know what? I dig Netflix, but this article at IMDb’s Studio Briefing had me scratching my head and chuckling in that “that’s amusing and fucked up” kind of way:

Netflix Says Earnings Rose When It Didn’t Rent Movies
Netflix, the online film renter, said Monday that it expects its net earnings for the third quarter to rise substantially above its earlier forecast, largely due to distribution savings as its subscribers rented fewer movies. Netflix attributed the downturn in rentals to subscriber interest in the Olympic Games and predicted they could return to normal in the fourth quarter. Netflix also said that it now has about 2.23 million subscribers, versus 1.29 million a year ago, a 73-percent gain.
