Is it suitable for viewers who never watched the series?
Most certainly.
Joss (writer/director) does a good job of filling in the necessary backstory for those that’ve never seen Firefly.
There are a couple of character-interaction things that are enhanced by having watched the episodes, but they’re on the order of a quick little inside joke — I would expect that it doesn’t prove distracting to Firefly/Serenity newbies.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
Not really a total spoiler, but I have to say I so admire Joss not being afraid to take huge risks with two spesific characters. My choked on my heart when Zoe said, “He ain’t commin’.” At that point, nothing was certian. Joss ended that movie the way he is apt to end a season, leaving the audience wanting more, while saying God Joss, why? how could you?
So after the first night it was out, Alex and I stopped by the store and Steve said, “Have You seen it ?”, to which we replied that we had over slept and missed the 11 am showing. Then Steve made a face, kinda sad, and a little worried, the kind of face you make you a friend has said something that worries you and then left, and I wanted the spoiler as to what would make him make that face.
Spoiler Alert
Let’s just say I cried pretty consistently for the last 20 min of the movie. (really though that isn’t saying much if you know me, i cry at commercials.)
I have seen the series, to those of you who haven’t seen the series, go see the movie anyway. The characters are strong and fun and make you love them almost instantly. Then go out and rent or borrow or buy the series.
Love, Sara
Kev, We thought of you while we saw it. Still miss you buddy…
