A winning story

Scott Adams often makes with the funny. Today, he makes with the “Damn, that’s a good story!” action.

Neil rocks. This just proves it.

Kind of surprised I’m the first in my group o’ friends to blog this:

Amos Leads Neil Gaiman Tribute Album
An album inspired by the work of prolific author Neil Gaiman will be released this summer by Philadelphia-based independent label Dancing Ferret Discs. The project, tentatively titled “Where’s Neil When You Need Him?,” is expected to arrive July 18, according to Dancing Ferret principal Patrick Rodgers.

The most high-profile contributor to the compilation is Tori Amos, a longtime friend of Gaiman’s who occasionally name-checks the writer in her lyrics. In fact, the album’s working title is a line taken from her song “Space Dog.”

Where’s the CD of “Where’s Neil When You Need Him?” going to be sold? Glad you asked.

“Where’s Neil When You Need Him?” will be sold at traditional retail outlets as well as comic book stores.

Here’s a cool tidbit (emphasis mine):

According to Rodgers, the project is being assembled with the approval of Gaiman, who is writing the liner notes for the CD, while collaborator Dave McKean is creating its artwork. My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way is writing the introduction.

Though I’m not sure of Neil’s attendance plans, I will point out that the CD hits right before Comic-Con;-)

Posted at Molly Saves the Day:
For the women of South Dakota: an abortion manual

Why is she posting this information? As she says in another post:

When my friends and I began to discuss the way the wind was blowing regarding Roe — and the fact that there might not be abortion-friendly laws in the United States, especially in red states, soon, several commented that within a few years, there would of course be setups built to handle it — safe illegal clinics, another Jane network, newsgroups developed for the sole purpose of transporting women, et cetera. But even as this idea soothed us a little, it also suggested something horrible: that for a few years, there would be a service gap that would kill many women unlucky enough to get pregnant during those lean years.

I am posting this now so that the information is available for anyone who believes it is needed where they are, as a hedge against these laws. No woman should be caught in a gap, forced to give birth or attempt self-abortion.

Brava, Molly.

He signed it. The bastard actually signed it.

S.D. Governor Signs Abortion Ban Into Law

[AP] PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds signed legislation Monday banning nearly all abortions in South Dakota, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973
U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.

The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless the procedure was necessary to save the woman’s life. It would make no exception for cases of rape or incest.

/stunned and dismayed

[EDITED TO ADD:] Planned Parenthood is asking for help in what’s surely going to be a Supreme Court battle over this anti-Roe v. Wade.

It’s alive!

Tonight at work we launch our redesigned website, thus concluding (I hope) the several-months-long process that has been the source of too many headaches and the root of my getting too little sleep for too long.

To those with whom I’ve been mildly incoherent, or to those owed an email response, please know that the long, long struggle is nearing its end, and I shall soon be able to poke my head out more fully than I have been for some time now.
