9/11: “What we saw”

Via Mark Evanier comes this OMFG video clip:

It’s amazing that “new” footage of the World Trade Center disaster should emerge five years later but some has. A couple who lived 500 yards from Ground Zero shot home video that day and has now released their footage on the Internet. It runs about fifteen minutes and is very chilling because…well, because you hear a family watching the tragedy, wondering what’s happening and commenting as they see it unfold before their eyes, practically in their back yard.

    Holy.

    Crap.

I can not imagine what it would have been like to be sitting that close to a world-defining moment like that. This is absolutely amazing.

I watched this video, not really sure if I was ready for “the cathartic moment” or not. I know that I was crying , bawling in terror, and sadness watching that unfold on MSNBC five years ago, I have no idea what I would have been like in that moment, in thier shoes. I figured if I could make it through fifteen minutes, maybe I could make it through the movies that have come out recently.

As a soon to be teacher, it is my job, to make sure that these next generations don’t forget that moment. Because we inevitably (i think i spelled that wrong) do, if history has taught us anything than the plot in London should never have gotten as close as it did. We have to, to use a quote from a childrens’ movie, “remember everything”. Because if we forget that moment, that day, we open ourselves up to reliving that or something like it.
