Studio 60 picked up for back nine

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
E! Online’s “Watch with Kristen” column is reporting that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip has been picked up for the full season of 22 episodes (instead of just the half-season of 13 episodes).

I’m told that NBC prez Kevin Reilly is standing behind Studio and keeping it in its Monday-night time slot for the time being, in hopes that the show’s audience might grow.

This is excellent news. Studio 60 is a really good show, though the unevenness since its premiere has given me a slightly better appreciation for my parents’ cajoling of high school-era me that I wasn’t living up to my potential:

From anyone else, Studio 60 would be a home run; from the supremely talented one-two punch of Aaron Sorkin and Thomas Schlamme I expect more.

Monday night’s episode, “Nevada Day, Pt. 1,” was a return to tip-top form, however. :-)

No more SG-1. Damn.

SG-1 Ends Run; Atlantis Back

SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.

Read the entire thing here.

Coming on the heels of the brilliantly funny 200th episode, the sting is especially pronounced.

Venger can suck it

This just in from the always-entertaining Mark Evanier:

D&D on DVD

I guess I should mention that it’s official: The Dungeons and Dragons cartoon show, which I worked on back in my misspent youth, is coming to DVD shortly. On or about November 7, it’s coming out from the Ink and Paint company — a “complete” set which will include all 27 episodes plus a “making of” documentary and a number of special features. I’ll put up an Amazon link as soon as that’s possible.

W00t!

Ah… good times…

  • Hey, look – a Dungeons and Dragons ride!
  • Wow, neat!
  • Give me a break.
  • I don’t like this!
  • What’s happening?
  • Where are we?
  • Look out!
  • Fear not, ranger; barbarian; magician; thief; cavalier; and acrobat!
  • Who was that?
  • That was Venger, the force of evil. I am Dungeon Master, your guide in the realm of Dungeons & Dragons!

Your daily wacky: Nissan pulls hot car ad with Kim Cattrall

From the Associated Press (via Yahoo News):

Kim Cattrall Japanese carmaker Nissan said Friday it has pulled a raunchy commercial starring “Sex and the City” actress Kim Cattrall from New Zealand television after complaints over its content.

Cattrall, who plays sex-obsessed, promiscuous Samantha Jones in the hugely successful U.S. series, appears in the ad purring with excitement about Nissan’s new sedan.

“Why didn’t you tell me it was so big, I just wasn’t prepared for it?” she gushes. “The all-new Nissan Tiida makes you feel really, really, really good inside.”

She tells a salesman: “Ah! That was amazing. Absolutely fabulous! I mean the great body and the way you moved it.”

The double entendre-laced ad was approved by New Zealand’s Television Commercial Approvals Bureau before broadcast. Nevertheless, it sparked a number of complaints to the Advertising Standards Complaints Board.

Nissan said it was taking the commercial off the air before the board could consider the objections.

“We made this decision in the interest of self-regulation and in response to public feedback,” Nissan said in a statement.

New Zealand generally is regarded as liberal when it comes to TV ad content, with no complaints reported about the Australian tourism campaign “Where the bloody hell are you?” which was banned in the UK.
